Sprenger's Asparagus
Sprenger's Asparagus - Asparagus sprengerii.
A popular elegant plant for interior decoration. Its flexible drooping shoots form an airy green "ligature" and allow asparagus to be used as an ampelous crop or as a cut flower for floristry. The leaves are linear, shiny, light green. In summer, small white fragrant flowers appear, from which bright red "beads" of berries are formed. Asparagus is easy to grow. It prefers: a moderately lit place or partial shade, an optimal air temperature of +18+22 °C, light fertile soil; in summer - frequent spraying and watering, regular fertilizing, and in winter - moderate watering. In summer, the plant can be grown outdoors, in a semi-shaded corner.
The seeds are sown in the spring in loose nutritious soil, slightly sealed. They are pre-soaked in warm water for two days. Before the emergence of seedlings, cover the crops with a light-proof material and provide good ventilation. At a temperature of +20°C, seedlings appear in 3-4 weeks. Seedlings grown to 7-8 cm are pricked out one by one into pots with a diameter of 8-10 cm. Young plants must be protected from direct sunlight. Replanting of adult plants is carried out in the spring only when the roots begin to "push" the plant out of the pot.
